Thank you to Mr. Doyle for orchestrating this year’s successful Career Day!
During the 90-minute panel, juniors and seniors heard from and engaged with Lisa Perez ’83, Executive Director at J.P. Morgan Asset Management; Alexandra Wood ’03, Vice President of Product Management at Capital One; Jolevette Mitchell ’05, Vice President and Senior Counsel at Apple Bank; and Natalia Rivera ’15, Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Major League Baseball.
Because Ms. Perez experienced a significant transition from working for Bear Stearns to J.P. Morgan, she encouraged Cathedralites to not be afraid of change. She encouraged students to know what they bring to the table and to be confident when applying their skills in new environments.
Ms. Wood shared that her work in Human Resources is “deeply emotional” because she interacts with individuals at critical moments in their lives, such as when someone is receiving a promotion or becoming a parent for the first time. Her advice to students was to “remember your humanity” in engaging with colleagues.
Ms. Mitchell shared that as a woman in corporate America, one of the biggest challenges was being recognized for her accomplishments. She motivated students with her pithy statement: “If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
When asked about her experience in boot camp, Ms. Rivera emphasized that “if you’re in the right place at the right time in the right uniform, you’re already steps ahead.” She encouraged students to seek out mentors and to use every opportunity as a learning opportunity.
The panelists engaged with upperclassmen in a wide-ranging program that ran the gamut from managing relationships, to professional development and intentionality.
All alumnae agreed that Cathedral High School is the start of a lifelong journey of success and achievement!
